This can be a temperamental process as there is a lot of variables, but if you search for how to restore a WIM file to a hard drive, and study the post-restore process to create the system partition, you will probably have success. Now run 'W:\Windows\System32\bcdboot W:\Windows /l en-US /s S:', note that you may need to modify this command in accordance with the BCDboot options.Type 'Assign Letter='S'' to give it drive letter S.Type 'Select Volume 1' where '1' is the system partition.Type 'Assign Letter='W'' to give it drive letter W (don't worry, this won't change it from C drive in Windows when booted successfully).Type 'Select Volume 0' where '0' is the windows partition.Identify the windows partition and the system partition.Now type 'List Volume' to list the partitions.Type 'Select Disk 0' where '0' is the desired disk id.From the disks listed, identify the disk which is the new SSD.I think there is a way to access this through the wizard following the 'repair' steps, but you should be able to just press shift+F10 on the 'select disk' page of the windows new installation wizard to open the command prompt. If using the installation media method, you want to open the command prompt. Boot into Windows PE from either PE media you have prepared earlier, or from a windows installer disc.This can be done in much the same procedure you would use after restoring a WIM. It’s the only HDD in my PC.If Windows isn't attempting to boot at all, I would first try repairing the system partition manually. Thank goodness Old Blue (WD Blue 640 Gb HDD) is still hanging in there. Tried again, installation failed, same M.O. I double-checked and terminated all services and processes related to antivirus and firewall. I disabled all antivirus and firewall software. Same result, even had the desktop shortcut created and new startup item acknowledged… I closed everything, rebooted, tried again. Began True Image installation, got a little over half way across the progress meter and “Installation has failed,” “Fatal error during installation.” No explanation. Downloaded a fresh setup file for True Image (build 33). Uninstalled all WD software except for Smartware. Have had new WD HDDs sitting here for months, waiting for me to replace a power supply in order to have customizable cable connections. Unfortunately I had assumed the WD product would enable me to clone a HDD like Acronis did. ![]() I uninstalled Acronis True Image, installed WD disk tools. Warned that these new tools wouldn’t work with Acronis. The new version of MyBook came with WD disk tools, which I began to install. I also had a WD My Cloud, which failed a couple of days after warranty was up. ![]() ![]() ![]()
